CITIZEN MONITORING PROGRAM

Syb Blythe, Carey Kimball and Bruce Smith Monitoring on Big Chico Creek below Iron Canyon

We’re starting year two of our volunteer assessment efforts in Big Chico Creek watershed and you can join us!

In 2004 over 50 volunteers were trained and helped collect information on the health of Big Chico Creek watershed.  This year we hope you will join us in our efforts as we begin Phase Two of our program.  Phase Two continues monitoring in the foothill zone of the watershed and expands to include monitoring sites in the mountain and valley zones as well.

Volunteers will be trained in June and will receive a certificate stating that they have successfully completed our water quality monitoring training course.  These certificates not only acknowledge our appreciation of the volunteers' effort but also serve to insure the information collected will be useful to all those interested in keeping our creek healthy.  In addition, volunteers that attend a training workshop and  four monitoring events will be awarded a Big Chico Creek Monitoring Team T-shirt!

We truly appreciate the efforts and hard work of our volunteers, and recognize their involvement is critically important in our efforts to protect the health of Big Chico Creek.  Training workshops will be offered in June, and again this fall.  Monitoring will be conducted each year during the months of April through October and once during the winter months as well.  We hope you will join us!
